A unique mashup of leader, strategist, scientist, photographer and family man, Dr. Wes Galliher has navigated an unusual career path from earning his PhD in organic chemistry to taking on product management leadership roles in both startups and enterprise organizations.
As Productable's head of product, Wes is kind of like our very own one-man-band. (You’ll learn more about his musical aptitude later.) As employee number one, he was tasked with taking our software from prototype to platform. Wes says this role has pushed him to take his learning velocity to the next level.
We asked Wes…
What's a goal that you want to accomplish in the next year?
I love learning. (It’s actually one of my top five strengths on the Strengths Finder Assessment!) But one of my goals is to increase my learning velocity. A relatively common mantra these days is to fail fast, but in my opinion failures are useless unless you learn from them. I want to get extremely comfortable with doing just enough work that can be tested, learned from and iterated on. And I want to do that cycle at high velocity across many areas of my life, both professionally and personally. Now I’ve just got to figure out a good way to measure it...
Do you have any skills or talents that most people don't know about?
I can roll my tongue into the shape of a three-leaf clover and for many years growing up was a “talented” performer in our extended family bottle band, consisting of blowing across necks of bottles “tuned” to the right pitches by filling them with various amounts of water.
What can we find you doing on the weekends?
Enjoying some quality time with my wife, Crystal, and chasing our two young kids around our backyard and neighborhood. We also like to go on short road trip adventures as a family in random directions from our house and continue to seek out safe ways to hang out with our friends and share a delicious meal together.
